Ladies to battle ULL in exhibition match

LAFAYETTE, La. – Senior guard Vashni Sharp-Moore and the Centenary Ladies basketball team prepare to battle the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday at noon in their only exhibition game of the year.

Centenary begins its regular season Nov. 15 at Lamar at 7 p.m. before opening at home Nov. 24 against Mississippi College at 2 p.m.

Moore and the Ladies finished 8-17 last season. Kayla Ruth and Dionecia Warr join Moore as the only three returners from last year’s squad.

Moore, the only senior, will carry a heavy load on both ends of the court, third-year head coach Kristen Davis said.

“Vashni knows she will be key for us both on offense as well as defense,” Davis said. “She was in a variety of pressure situations last season that I think prepared her to be a leader for us this year.”

Warr, like Moore, played in all 25 games last season. However, the sophomore had no starts, but averaged just under 24 minutes off the bench and is the second-leading returning scorer, dropping in eight points per game in her debut season at Centenary.

“I can tell that Dio really worked hard over the summer,” Davis said. “Her range has definitely improved as well as her consistency. Dio is an explosive player who we will look to for constant energy and intensity.

Dio and Vashni have really been stepping it up in practice and setting a good example for the new players. They have the most playing experience at this level and I expect them to set the tone for us tomorrow.”
