Ladies fall in Home Opener

SHREVEPORT – Centenary women’s basketball team opened SCAC play Friday night against Trinity University. Centenary (0-5) had a solid first half, but Trinity (3-1) was too much for the Ladies in the second as the fell 75-54 on the evening.

Vashni Sharp-Moore had a game high 19 points while Brianna Edwards notched a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

The Ladies got off to a hot start taking a 7-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game. Centenary was able to lead by as much as 7 midway through the half. Trinity would come back and eventually take the lead for the remainder of the half. A big three point conversion on a free throw by Emmeline Richard would narrow the deficit by three. The score was 36-31 at half-time.

Trinity would open the half with momentum and pushed the lead by as many as nine 46-37 through the first five minutes of the 2nd half. Their largest lead of the night was 21. Centenary would respond the last five minutes of the half, but were unable to get enough consistent scoring.

The Lady Tigers had four players reach double figures on the evening led by Hannah Coley with 14, and also pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Anecia Richardson followed with 13, Ashley Alexander added 11, and Bryony Hollins finished with 10.

The Ladies continue their weekend homestand tomorrow against Southwestern University at 6 p.m.
