SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s basketball team hung tough in the second half and was able to take advantage of LeTourneau (2-3) turnovers and earn its first win of the year 74-66. Vashni Sharp-Moore led all scorers with 26 points for a season high.

The Ladies (1-6) started the game off with a layup by Brianna Edwards to take 2-0 lead. The game would be back and forth the entire half with seven of the game’s 12 ties occurring. LeTourneau would have the advantage with a layup by Erica Carson with 0:08 seconds left in the half to go up 33-31 at halftime.

Things were slow the first few minutes of the second half as LeTourneau would extend its largest lead of the night to five with a 36-31 score. The Ladies were able to keep the game close, but things quickly got tough for a short bench. Dionecia Warr and Brianna Edwards each picked up their fourth foul and Rebecca Edwards had to leave with an injury. Centenary remained tough though and was able to regain the lead for good with a layup by Emmeline Richard to make it 53-51 with 7:49 remaining. The Ladies pushed the lead to as many as 10 thanks to turnovers and hitting free throws at the end; shooting 81 percent (17-21) for the game. Centenary was able to score 14 points off 24 LeTourneau turnovers.

Three players were in double figures for Centenary, who shot 40.9 percent for the game. Following Sharp-Moore was Warr with 18 and Richard contributed 15 for a season high as well. Thompson was one shot short of a double-double scoring 8 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for a team high. Caitlyn Gentry also added 8.

The Ladies continue nonconference play and will travel across town to take on Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
