SHREVEPORT, La – Sophomore Dionecia Warr has been named the women’s basketball Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. She only had one game of action this week, but her play was significant and helped lead the Ladies eventually to a big 65-64 overtime victory over University of Dallas.

Warr had a game high 23 points on 9 of 20 (45 percent), pulled down 8 rebounds, and swiped 6 steals in the game. With five seconds remaining in regulation, Warr picked up one of those six steals and was fouled with one second remaining. She only hit one of two shots from the free throw line to force overtime where the Ladies won by a point.

A native of San Antonio, TX, the 5-7 guard/forward is averaging 16.1 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Her season high came earlier this year against Southwestern University when she notched 27 points.

“Dio has really stepped up as a leader and is a consistent player for us both on the offensive side and defensive side of the ball,” Head Coach Kristen Davis said. “Her energy and explosiveness are keys to our success in games.”

The Ladies have had a few good weeks as they’ve won two of their last three games entering play tonight against University of Dallas. Warr is the second Ladies player to receive the SCAC Player of the Week honor this season. Senior Vashni Sharp-Moore earned the honor last week.

After Monday’s game, the Ladies will play in the BSC Sheraton Classic hosted in Birmingham, AL. The first game is Saturday, December 29 against Rhodes College at 5 p.m.
