Centenary meets Austin College Saturday

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s and men’s basketball teams return home Saturday against Austin College. The Ladies will tip-off at 3 p.m. and the Gents follow at 5 p.m.

The Ladies (3-9, 2-2 SCAC) return to action after dropping both games last weekend in the BSC Sheraton Classic where they lost to Rhodes and Birmingham Southern College.

Against Birmingham Southern College, the Ladies fell 79-77 in the final seconds. Outscoring the Panthers 52-35 in the second half, the Ladies used a 20-7 run in the middle of the half to climb back into the contest. They were able to tie the score three times in the final seven minutes, but never got that key basket to gain the lead.

Vashni Sharp-Moore and Dionecia Warr combined for 59 points in the game. Sharp-Moore notched her second double-double in a row with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Warr had a season and game high 31 points.

Austin College (6-8, 0-4 SCAC) women's basketball went 2-1 the past three weeks, and is coming off a loss against Texas-Dallas 67-47 on New Year’s Day.

The Centenary men’s basketball team will be looking to get back on track against Austin College. The Gents (5-7, 1-3 SCAC) have dropped five in a row, after falling at ETBU Monday 68-64.

Centenary was led by Brett Bell in scoring with 15 points and Jonathan Blount and Caden Cheramie contributed 12 and 10 points respectively. The Gents did shoot well from the field at 44.6 percent and had the edge in rebounding 40-30.

Austin College (3-11, 0-4 SCAC) men's basketball has gone 2-2 in the past two weeks, winning two in a row against Hendrix (71-61) and Millsaps (76-65). However, they’re coming off two losses this past week againstRhodes (59-43) and Texas-Dallas (79-60).
