Ladies and Gents Continue Homestand

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s and women’s basketball programs return to action this weekend with doubleheaders against Southwestern (Friday, Jan. 11) and Trinity (Saturday, Jan. 12). The Ladies will tip at 6 p.m. with the Gents following approximately at 8 p.m.

The weekend’s action serves as the second installment between the programs this season. The Ladies dropped their earlier meetings with TU (75-54) and SU (95-79) while the Gents picked up a victory over the Pirates (79-48) after falling to the Tigers (64-56) the night prior.

The Ladies enter the weekend’s slate looking to snap a three-game slide after winning three of their last four heading into the holiday break. 

Vashni Sharp-Moore continues to pace the Maroon and White offensively averaging 19 points on the season following a team-best 21 points in the setback to Austin College last week. Sharp-Moore also stands as the team’s leader on the boards with 7.2 in 13 games on the year.

Dionecia Warr stands as the only other Lady in double digit scoring with 17.4 per game.

The Gents got off the snide against the Roos of Austin College last Friday evening, snapping a five-game skid en route to a 59-56 victory.

Jonathan Blount tallied a team-best 25 points keeping his season average at 23.8 points per game. The junior has led the Gents in scoring in eight of their 13 contests on the year. Brett Bell leads Centenary on the glass with a team leading 7.9 rebounds per game.

The Pirate women enter the weekend riding a three-game win streak following an 84-55 victory over Dallas last Saturday. Jordan Owens, who leads the team with 19.1 points per game, posted 16 points in the win over Dallas. Chelsea Leeder tallied a team-best 21 points in the win and sits second on the squad averaging 15 points on the year.

Trinity has claimed three straight and four of its last five outings entering the Gold Dome. Murphy Burns leads a trio of double digit scorers with 19.2 points on the campaign while Anecia Richardson and Hannah Coley are averaging 12.1 and 11.4 points per game respectively.

The Pirate men have dropped three in a row and four of their last five entering the Gold Dome. Michael Cantu and Travis Kurtz pace the squad in the scoring column with 11.2 and 10.4 points respectively.

Trinity had a seven-game win streak snapped Sunday falling 68-66 to Colorado College. Zach Lambert is averaging 18.2 points a game. Heath Hopson sits second on the team with 10.2 points per contest following a team-best, 27-point effort in the loss to the Tigers.

Following the weekend slate, the Ladies return to the hardwood on Monday, Jan. 14 as they host Louisiana College at 5:30 p.m. in non-conference action. The Ladies and Gents then host Colorado College and Dallas next weekend to close out their season-long homestands.
