Ladies, Gents post second place finishes at AC Invite

SHERMAN, Texas – The Centenary men’s and women’s swim team posted a pair of second place finishes at the Austin College Invitational. The invite was the first meet of the 2013 season and the Ladies and Gents didn’t disappoint with five event wins combined. The Ladies finished with a score of 482.5 with the Gents posting a score of 512.

Rachel Olson claimed a pair of titles for the Ladies with wins in the women’s 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly. Olson recorded times of 2:15.47 in the IM followed by a 1:02.46 time in the butterfly.

Julie Hughes garnered the third victory for the Ladies with a time of 2:20.40 in the women’s 200-yard butterfly. Hughes bested Texas-Permian Basin’s Michelle Dominquez’s time of 2:21.71.

Michael Schwandt posted a time of 55.15 to capture the men’s 100-yard backstroke as Collin Baker claimed the men’s 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:07.55 for the two event wins for the Gents.

Hayley Schneider finished second by Olson in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.65 and was second to her teammate again in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.68. Michelle Gaubert finished third in the 100-yard butterfly recording a time of 1:03.15.

The team of Kathlyn Rivers, Olson, Gaubert and Schneider posted a time of 1:57.71 to finish second in the women’s 200-yard medley relay while the Gents’ squad of Ross Olivier, Matthew Pittman, Beau Montgomery and Austin Butler tallied a time of 1:43.05 to finish third in the men’s 200-yard medley. Montgomery also finished third in the men’s 100-yard backstroke with a score of 57.55.

Christy Wolterman finished with a time of 5:38.48 for a third place finish in the women’s 500-yard freestyle with Pittman finishing third in the men’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.24.

Gaubert posted a time of 25.82 to tie for second in the women’s 50-yard freestyle with UT-PB’s Lauren Porras with Butler finishing third in the men’s 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.82.

Andrew Borel claimed a second place finish in the men’s 200-yard, freestyle with a score of 1:51.36.

Rivers added a second place finish to her afternoon with a time of 2:17.80 in the women’s 200-yard backstroke while Ross also secured a second place finish in the men’s 200-yard backstroke.

The Ladies’ team of Schneider, Kayla Thornhill, Gaubert and Olson concluded the meet with a second place finish in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay with a score of 1:45.09 while the men’s squad of Schwandt, Olivier, Borel and Butler finished third in the men’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:31.00.

Texas-Permian Basin claimed the team titles in the invite with the women garnering a score of 724.5 while the UT-PB men posted a score over 763. Southwestern finished third in the women’s (311) and men’s (435).

Centenary returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Montgomery, Texas against Trinity University.
