GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped an 89-58 decision on Friday evening at Southwestern. The Ladies fall to 5-15 overall and 4-7 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. SU improves to 15-5 and 9-1 in conference action.

Vashni Sharp-Moore led Centenary with 19 points in the contest. The point total is her 18th double figure scoring contest of the season. Briana Edwards joined her senior teammate in double digits with a career-high 17 points – her eighth game in double figures this season and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Rebecca Thompson rounded out the double figure scorers for the ladies with 12 points – her sixth double-digit contest of the year.

The Ladies opened with the first points of the contest, but quickly found themselves down 18-8 at the 13-minute mark. The Pirates would hit four, 3-pointers over the next three minutes to double up the Maroon and White 30-15 at the halfway point of the opening stanza.

The two squads exchanged baskets over the next few trips up the floor before both squads went cold shooting with a three minute drought without a bucket. Dio Warr broke the scoreless streak hitting the front end of a pair of free throws with less than seven minutes remaining.

Centenary attempted to close the gap, but the Black and Gold held the Ladies at bay outscoring the Maroon and White 18-12 down the stretch taking a 50-30 margin in at the half.

The Pirates, who held  the Ladies to 17 percent shooting from the floor in the final 20 minutes, didn’t let up in the second half leading by as many as 36 points with seven minutes to play en route to their 31-point victory. Centenary finished the night shooting 28.6 percent from the floor. SU finished the night connecting on just less than 45 percent of its shots, including 36 percent from behind the arc.

Jordan Owens led Southwestern with 23 points. Annie Bourne posted a double-double in the win with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Chelsea Leeder added 13 points to round out the double figure scorers.

Centenary returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 3 at Trinity. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
