SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In a contest that witnessed only two lead changes and one tie, the Centenary men’s basketball team dropped an 85-76 decision at Trinity on Sunday afternoon. The win improves TU to 15-6 on the season and 9-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference while the Maroon and White drop to 8-12 overall and 4-8 in SCAC action.

A trio of Gents posted double figures in the scoring column led by Jonathan Blount’s 23 points. JaColby Hardin-Crawford and Brooks Pawsat added 17 and 16 points respectively off the bench for the Maroon and White. Brett Bell paced the Gents on the glass with seven rebounds.

The Tigers controlled much of the game relinquishing the advantage on a couple occasions during the contest. The Gents grabbed their only lead of the game at 15-minute mark on a 3-pointer by Blount. After the Tigers regained a slight lead, Blount again laid the ball up to time the contest at 10-all with 12:42 to play before the half. Craig Saltarelli quickly answered with a 3-pointer to put the Tigers back up 13-10 as they never surrendered the lead the remainder of the way.

The Gents held the deficit within range the remainder of the first half before heading into the locker room down 40-33. A fourth of Trinity’s points in the opening half came off second chances as they held a 10-1 advantage over the Maroon and White.

Zach Lambert pushed the Tigers lead to double digits for the first time in the contest on a 3-pointer 15 seconds into the half. Trinity held the double digit lead until the final seconds when a Blount trey brought the margin to nine points. TU held its largest lead of 18 points with 12:40 to play in the game.
