Ladies prevail over LeTourneau, Gents fall

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s tennis team moved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-4 victory over LeTourneau while the Centenary men’s tennis were swept by the Yellowjackets 9-0 for their first loss on the campaign.

The Ladies claimed four of the singles matches to secure the win as the Maroon and White’s only doubles victory on the afternoon came from the team of Katie Cornwell and Katelyn Alexander who dispatched of their LETU counterparts 8-0.

Cornwell and Alexander also logged singles wins for Centenary. Cornwell claimed a win over Shelby May 6-2, 6-2 while Alexander added a 6-1, 7-5 victory. Maddie Mull posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Miranda Lamb in the second singles spot while Holly Clark picked up a win in the fifth spot with a victory over Brittany Cowan at 6-0, 7-6.

In singles action for the Gents, Anthony McMaster forced his contest with Carlos Cantu to three sets before falling 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. McMaster along with Cameon Bueche forced a close match with Kendell Beggs and Sindre Johnsgaard before the Yellowjacket squad claimed the 9-7 win.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 16 as the Ladies host Henderson State at 9 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. match against Louisiana College. The Gents will also host Louisiana College at 2 p.m.
