Ladies drop decision at Colorado College

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped its third straight in a 56-48 decision at Colorado College on Friday evening. The loss drops the Ladies to 5-17 overall and 4-9 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. Colorado College improves to 4-18 and 4-8 in conference play.

In a contest that witnessed nine lead changes and a trio of ties, the Tigers used a 32-18 scoring advantage in the paint to secure the eight-point win. The margin of victory served as the largest lead in the contest and neither squad held a double-digit lead in the affair.

Vashni Sharp-Moore led the Ladies with 14 points in the contest. The point total marked the 20th outing in double figures for the Shreveport, La., native and her 18th consecutive.

Briana Edwards paced the Maroon and White on the boards with 11 rebounds, her 10th double-digit effort on the campaign.  

After the Black and Gold took a five-point in at the break, the two squads matched each other point for point in the opening minutes of the second half. The Ladies nipped at the Tigers lead and with less than eight minutes to play grabbed a 41-39 advantage off a Francesca Lawrence jumper. Sharp-Moore increased the lead to 43-39 less than a minute later on a layup.

Colorado College answered back with three consecutive baskets to regain the lead at 45-43. The Tigers didn’t surrender the advantage the remainder of the contest closing out the final four minutes on an 11-5 run.

Kalli Kemling led a quartet of Tigers in scoring with 13 points. Kemling added a team-leading 16 rebounds to record a double-double in the win. Marissa Gradoz added 12 points while Danielle Davis and Katie Wirth each tacked on 10 points.

Centenary closes out the road swing against Colorado College tomorrow at 7 p.m. central.
