Gents face Jarvis Christian in home doubleheader

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball opens the home portion of the 2013 schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 14 as the Gents host Jarvis Christian in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Gents enter the weekend after posting a 1-1 record in McKinney, Texas to open the season. The Maroon and White garnered its first win of the campaign with a 9-7, come from behind victory over Louisiana College. Centenary fell 9-8 in the lid-lifter against East Texas Baptist. The Gents had five hitters posted a .333 or better batting average on the week.

Ben Schweinfurth, the reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, went 4-for-7 at the plate with a .571 batting average to lead the Gents. The four hits, including three doubles, registered second on the team in the two contests. The Mustang, Okla., native also collected five RBI and scored four runs on the weekend.

Matt Creamer joined Schweinfurth with a .500-plus batting average on the weekend with Creamer leading the team with five hits (5-for-10) and adding three RBI. Grady Flournoy logged the only win on the mound with a scoreless, 2.1 innings of work. The sophomore allowed just one hit and totaled three strikeouts. Creamer held the opposition to a .125 batting average.

Following the midweek action Centenary opens SCAC play at Southwestern University. First pitch of the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. with Sunday’s series finale also tabbed for 1 p.m.
