SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball team returns to the diamond this weekend as the Gents open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Southwestern. First of the Saturday twinbill is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Centenary closes the weekend swing at 1 p.m. on Sunday against the Pirates.

The Maroon and White are coming off a midweek split with Jarvis Christian to open the home slate. Centenary claimed the opener 6-1, but were tripped up by the Bulldogs falling 4-3 in the nightcap. Christian Sebastien and Marc Martinez stood as the only Gents with multiple hits –both logging theirs in the first contest. Holden Novak recorded the win on the mound with fanning three batters in two innings of work and allowing three hits

Ben Schweinfurth stands as the leader at the plate through the first four games with a .417 average. The freshman has registered five hits with a team-best five RBI. The five hits are tied for second on the squad with Sebastien.

Matt Creamer leads the team in hits with six on the campaign. The senior is batting .400 on the season – second behind Schweinfurth’s hitting clip.

Grady Flournoy has the other win on the bump for the Gents. The Shreveport, La., native has pitched 4.1 innings – tied for the top spot on the team with Layton Tromba. Flournoy has sat down four batters this season – second on the team – with three hits and three runs allowed. Paul Arecement leads the squad with five strikeouts.

Southwestern enters the weekend with a record of 1-6, including four straight losses. Jay Sterling leads the squad with a .414 batting average and team-bests 12 hits and seven RBI. Cody Lovas has the lone Pirate win on the mound and the second most innings at 8.2. Carl Muellar has tallied 11.1 innings on the hill with a team-leading 14 strikeouts.

Following the three-game, conference series, Centenary returns to action on Friday, Feb. 22 for the start of a three-game series with Hendrix College.
