GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Centenary baseball team opened the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action in a big way blasting Southwestern 13-3 and 16-4 in the Saturday doubleheader of a three-game series.

Multiple Gents posted multi-hit performances in the scoring outbursts as both contests ended in seven innings. The Maroon and White tallied a total of 29 hits in the doubleheader while holding the Pirates to just 14 hits.

Jemari James finished the twinbill with a perfect 6-for-6 afternoon at the dish and drove in three runs in the two decisions. Craig Littleman went a combined 5-for-9 at the plate with three RBI while Tyler Clakley and Marc Martinez each registered four hits in the doubleheader. The duo combined for nine runs driven in with Clakley picking up five and Martinez adding four RBI. Clakley also garnered the Gents’ first homerun of the season a two-run shot in the third frame of the night cap.

Christian Sebastien went 2-3 with a RBI in the opener.

Mike Diaz’s squad also logged solid pitching performances during the double dip. Layton Tromba tossed a complete game to earn his first win of the season in the opener. Tromba allowed a pair of runs on six hits while fanning four batters and walking a pair.

Cole Thompson registered his first win of the season with three innings on the bump in the second affair. The senior allowed four runs on six hits with a quartet of strikeouts and two walks. Taylor Henry closed the contest out with four, scoreless innings. The hurler sat down four batters and walked a pair in the contest.

In each contest the Gent bats posted strong, scoring, seventh innings. The Maroon and White erupted for five runs in the seventh frame of the opener and pounded out nine runs in the second contest to close out both outings.

Centenary closes out the three-game series at 1 p.m. against Southwestern on Sunday, Feb. 17.
