GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Centenary baseball team recorded a sweep of Southwestern to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action with a 19-9 victory over the Pirates on Sunday afternoon.

The Gents (5-2) garnered a doubleheader sweep over the Black and Gold on Saturday with 13-3 and 16-4 wins.

For the third straight outing the Gents posted a blockbuster, seventh inning – this time totaling eight runs en route to the victory. Centenary pounded out 14 hits on the day.

A quartet tallied multiple hits on the day led by Tyler Clakley’s three hits. Clakley went 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI. Marc Martinez paced the squad with five RBI on the day going 2-for-6 at the dish. Matt Creamer and Craig Littleman each tallied a pair of hits to join Martinez. Littleman also drove in two runs.

As a team, Centenary drove in 13 of its 19 runs with two outs.

Chase Clarke earned the win on the bump. Clarke was one of five hurlers to take the hill for the Gents on the day. The Shreveport, La., native tossed 2.1 innings allowing three runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and five walks.

Paul Arcement started the contest for the Maroon and White pitching three innings with four hits and two runs and three strikeouts. Trey Guiccione tossed two-thirds of an inning with Grady Fournoy pitching the final two innings. Holden Novak also saw time on the hill.

Defensively, the Gents kept 10 Pirate runner from crossing the plate leaving them stranded on the base path.

Nino Tutino took the loss for SU with 3.2 innings pitched. Tutino allowed six runs on six hits with six walks. Jeff Glasgow and Jay Sterling stood as the only Pirates with multiple hits registering three each.

Centenary returns to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 22 as the Gents open a 10-game, homestand against Hendrix College. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
