SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball team opened its 10-game homestand with a 3-1 victory over Hendrix College on Friday evening. The win moves the Gents to 6-2 on the season while the HC falls to 3-4.

The Maroon and White picked up a stellar pitching effort from Layton Tromba as the Bossier City, La., native logged nine innings on the bump. The sophomore hurler sat down six Warriors en route to his second win of the season while allowing seven hits and the lone run.

The Gents picked up multiple hit outings out of Marc Martinez and Christian Sebastien in the victory. Martinez went 2-for-4 at the dish while Sebastien garnered a 2-for-3 outing with a RBI. Tyler Clakley recorded the only other hit for Centenary. Jemari James and Craig Littleman each drove in a run.

Ryan Gasporra started the scoring for the Gents crossing the dish on a fielder’s choice in the first inning. Centenary added a pair of runs in the fourth frame when James and Littleman each recorded the RBI as Sebastien and Clakley scored.

The Warriors logged their only run of the contest in the seventh inning as Matt Simmons on a Jacob Perschke single.

Perschke received the decision in the loss falling to 1-1 on the year. The Warrior pitcher recorded eight strikeouts with a walk.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 as the face Hendrix at Noon.
