SHERMAN, Texas. – The Centenary women’s basketball team concluded the 2013 season with a 59-57 loss to Dallas in the opening contest of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

Vashni Sharp-Moore scored a game-high 22 points in her final season in the Maroon and White.  The Shreveport, La., finished her career with 900-plus points. The scoring effort was the 47th double figure game of her career.

Briana Edwards added 11 points and to go along with 16 rebounds. The double-double marks the seventh of the season for the Shreveport, La., freshman. Dionecia Warr added 11 points to join to round out the double-digit scorers for the Ladies. Emmeline Richard chimed in 10 rebounds.

The contest held true to form as the three previous meetings between the two schools coming down to the final minutes. All four meetings were decided by a combined nine points.

With 39 ticks on the clock Sharp-Moore hit the front end of a pair of free throws to nip the Crusader’s lead to a point. The free throw capped a 15-3 run by the Ladies over a nearly seven-minute stretch. The Maroon and White forced a UD miscue, it’s 18th of the night, but a foul resulted in a turnover and negated a bucket that would have put the Ladies up for the first time in the second half.

UD made the miscue count in its favor as Chelsea Seifert hit the first of two free throws to ice the contest.

The Ladies outscored Dallas in the second half with over half its points coming in the paint as the Ladies amassed 20 points inside. The Maroon and White finished the contest with 32 points inside.

Centenary posted its largest lead of the game, 10 points, midway through the first half answering the Crusader’s early scoring with a 12-2 run. The Blue and White however answered with a 20-6 burst to close the opening stanza.

Kylie Yoshimura led Dallas with 14 points while Brooke Hagemann added 12. Marleyna Bustamante added a team-best 11 rebounds.
