Gents' duo grabs SCAC honors

SHERMAN, Texas – The Centenary men’s basketball team claimed Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors as Jonathan Blount was named Player of the Year and Brett Bell tabbed as the Newcomer of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Saturday.

Blount, a Shreveport, La., native led the SCAC in scoring with 21 points per game – the only player in the conference to average 20 points. The junior finished the season ranked sixth in the conference in field goal percentage connecting on 47.8 percent of his shots from the floor. In relation to being named the Player of the Year, Blount was also named to the All-SCAC First Team.

Brett Bell was named to the third team. The freshman averaged 7.5 points per contest which ranked 19th in the conference. The Flower Mound, Texas, native was second in the conference with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Caden Cheramie was named to the honorable mention team after averaging 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Centenary concluded its season with a 74-67 loss to Southwestern in the SCAC Championships.
