Ladies gymnastics take third at TWU

DENTON, Texas – Several personal bests were achieved for the Centenary gymnastics team Sunday afternoon in a quad meet that featured Texas Woman’s University, University Illinois-Chicago, and Air Force Academy. The Ladies (191.625) would finish third as a team behind TWU (193.575) and UIC (193.800), who won the competition. Air Force (191.225) rounded out the standings for the four teams. This marks the third consecutive meet scoring at least 190.500 for the Maroon and White.

All three competitors in the All-Around for the Ladies hit season-highs including: Robyn Price (38.850), Meg Crowley (38.425), and Jessica Lieblich (38.050). Price took the gold for the first time this year in that category with a career-high. Crowley also got a personal best finished in a tie for fifth place. The Spring, Texas native would lead the Ladies on beam (9.700) and floor (9.725).

Price and Stephanie Strickler each notched personal bests on bars with a 9.850. Both teammates tied for first place along with Linnaea Hance from AF. Strickler’s routine notched the Kingsport, Tenn. native her second consecutive career best with at least a 9.775 and meet where she won or tied for first place. Price’s vault (9.725) was also a season-high and led the Ladies in the event.

The Ladies saw a season best score on bars (48.500) that led all teams in the quad match. Along with Price and Strickler, Christy Martinez (9.650) and Crowley (9.450) also contributed with personal-highs.

Martinez achieved personal high scores on all three events she competed with a career best on floor (9.675) and season best on vault (9.650). Kellie Slater’s vault (9.650) matched a season-high for the third time this year for the freshmen Pearland, Texas native.

Centenary returns to action in a Tri-Meet next Friday, Mar. 1 at University of Arkansas (with Lindenwood) at 7 p.m.
