Tuesday, February 26, 2013

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Centenary’s Layton Tromba was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his efforts against Hendrix over the weekend, as announced by the conference office.

Tromba earned the win in his only appearance during week, pitching the Gents to a 3-1 victory against the Warriors on Friday. The Bossier City, La., native allowed one unearned run in a complete game win – his second complete contest on the campaign. The sophomore lefty scattered just seven hits and struck out six Hendrix batters.

The pitching effort assisted the Gents’ staff to holding the Warriors to a .243 batting average over the weekend as the hurlers combined for a 1.33 ERA.

Tromba becomes the second Centenary player to earn a weekly honor from the conference as Ben Schweinfurth was named Player of the Week earlier this season.

Centenary continues its 10-game homestand on Saturday, Mar. 2 as the Gents host conference foe Dallas in a three-game series. First pitch of Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
