SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball team continues its homestand on Saturday, Mar. 2 as the Gents host the University of Dallas in a three-game, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the Sunday finale also slated for 1 p.m.

The weekend series pits the top two teams in the conference against each other as the Maroon and White are 3-0 in conference play with the Crusaders at 5-1.

Centenary ran its win streak to six games with a series sweep of Hendrix. The Gents edged Hendrix in hits 27-25 for the weekend, but outscored the Warriors 18-5 in the sweep. Marc Martinez and Christian Sebastien each hit .455 to lead the squad for the week while Tyler Clakley added a .444 effort at the dish. Sebastien led the team with five RBI.

The Gents received solid pitcher performances on the week as Layton Tromba and Cole Thompson each recorded complete game wins. Tromba, the reigning SCAC Pitcher of the Week, scattered seven hits of the course of his nine innings without allowing an earned run and tallying six strikeouts. Thompson settled down to allow just three hits over the course of eight innings after allowing two runs on three hits in the first frame. Thompson fanned 10 in the victory. The pitching staff registered a 1.33 ERA for the weekend and held the Warriors to a .243 batting average.

Over the first 10 games of the season, Jemari James leads the Maroon and White with a .458 batting average. The St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, product is one of four Gents with double-digit RBI with 10. Clakley and Sebastien each pace the squad with 11 RBI each while Ben Schweinfurth joins James with 10 on the year.

On the mound, Tromba leads the way with 20.1 innings pitched pair with a 3.54 ERA. Tromba stands as just one of three pitchers with double figures strikeouts on the season with 10- tied with Taylor Henry. Thompson directs the staff of hurlers with 17 strikeouts.

Tug McRoberts and Trevor Keele have each registered 20-plus hits on the season with Keele tied for the top spot on the squad with 14 RBI along with Alex Thorton. Chris Schierhorn guides UD’s pitching staff with a 1.17 ERA in 23 innings pitched – one of three Crusader pitchers with 20-plus innings of work.

Following the weekend slate, Centenary will host conference foe Trinity next weekend at Shehee Stadium.
