SHREVEPORT, La. – A four-run, North Central, ninth inning handed the 25th-ranked Centenary baseball team its second loss during the midweek as the Cardinals (5-5) claimed a 5-4 decision.

The Gents (16-7) allowed just one hit through eight innings, but NCC found a way to crank out five hits in its last trip to the plate to push across the four runs needed to clinch the win.

Matt Brancato and Alex Khoury each drove in a run in the inning as Tom Ross plated two runs with a single to left field.

Centenary starter Paul Arcement tossed a one-hit, 7.2 innings of work and was relieved in the eighth for Layton Tromba, who struck out the only batter faced in the frame. Acrement fanned four batters and walks three in his time on the bump.

Taylor Henry (3-2) took the loss on the mound with an inning of action allowing four runs while walking one and striking out one in nine batters faced.

The Gents jumped out early with three runs in their first two at-bats as Craig Littleman and Christian Sebastien each collected RBI in the first inning and Zachary Stephenson drove in the third run in the second frame.

Centenary cruised through the following two innings until the Cardinals dented the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fifth on a Zac Pacanowski sacrifice fly that scored Kevin Hennessy – nipping the lead to 3-1.

The Maroon and White answered back in the bottom of the seventh as Nic Parrott scored on a Stephenson sac bunt.

Brendan Ryan (2-0), the sixth Cardinals’ hurler of the outing, took the win on the bump tossing 2.0 innings and fanning two batters.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 21 at the Gents host Southwestern in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The three-game series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the series finale set for Sunday also with a 1 p.m. start.
