Big innings doom Ladies
Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Hammond, La – The Centenary softball team couldn’t contain a tough Southeastern Louisiana University offense, falling 15-1 Wednesday evening. The Ladies fall to 1-18 overall, while Division I SELU improves to 17-8.

The Lady Lions jumped on the board early with a six-run, first inning fueled by three doubles in a row from Kelsey Nichols, Megan Moore, and Katie Doyle. All three hits led to two runs scoring each, but the last pair off Doyle’s hit were unearned due to a throwing error on the play.

In the top of the second, an RBI single by Abbie Woods scored Lauren Swift who led off with an infield hit. Three of the Ladies five hits came in the inning and helped cut the deficit to 6-1.

SELU expanded the lead for good pushing eight runs across in the bottom of the third inning.

Lynsi Unruh (1-10) suffered the loss in the game allowing 14 runs on 12 hits, but six runs were unearned due to four miscues by the Maroon and White. Lindsey Sconce tossed the final 1.2 innings allowing a run on two hits.

Swift, Jessica McDonald, Lindsey Sconce, Abbie Woods, and Breana Rogers all collected hits in the game.

Doyle and Moore led the Lady Lions with three hits each and combined for seven RBI. Nichols had multiple RBI with three and Logane Fuselier was the other player to have a multi-hit night with two.

Rachael Hellyer (8-0) pitched all 5.0 innings and allowed a run on five hits. She picked up the win to remain undefeated on the year and struck out seven while walking none.

Centenary returns to the Centenary Softball Complex tomorrow at 7 p.m. against Jackson State University.
