SHREVEPORT, La – The Centenary softball team managed to split the first two of a four game set againstAustinCollegeon Saturday afternoon. The Ladies managed a huge six-run first inning that held up to claim a 6-4 victory, before dropping a 5-0 contest in game two of the twinbill.

For the second consecutive conference series in a row, the Ladies (3-23, 2-4 SCAC) took the first game. AC (4-21, 1-4 SCAC) earned its first conference win of the year after dropping the first four, and also snapped a six game losing streak.

In game one, the Ladies got off to a quick start, matching a season-high six runs in an inning. The Maroon and White sent 11 batters to the plate to build an early 6-0 lead.

With one out, Centenary had eight consecutive players reach base, including four hits. Lynsi Unruh, Caitlyn Gentry, Jessica McDonald, and Emma Viskozki all had hits and at least an RBI. Viskozki’s two RBI single concluded the big inning.

The Lady Roos’ did cut the deficit in the top of the 2nd inning plating three runs to make it 6-3. They added a run in the 5th, but stranded eight runners and could not get the advantage back thanks to some key plays by the Maroon and White.

Unruh (3-14) picked up her third win of the season going the distance with 7.0 innings. She allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits while walking six and striking out five.

Sam Matulis (0-9) took the loss only completing 0.1 innings and allowing six runs on three hits and walking four. Hernandez finished the contest with 5.2 innings and giving up two hits, walking and striking out one.

In game two, McDonald had the only multi-hit game picking up two of the Ladies four hits. Sconce and Whitney Patterson also recorded one in the defeat.

Unruh got saddled with the loss allowing four runs on three hits in 3.2 innings. She walked five and struck out one. Sconce finished the final 3.1 innings and allowed a run on six hits while fanning two and walking three.

AC was led at the plate by Sophia Hernandez who had a two-run homer in the third inning to break a scoreless game. Heather Farquhar had the other two RBI day with her one base knock in the fourth.

Chelsea Delaney picked up the other RBI, and along with Jessica Baker, had multi-hit games.

Hernandez (3-8) got the win in her second appearance of the day, this time going the distance with 7.0 innings. She scattered four hits while walking and striking out two batters.

Centenary goes for the series win tomorrow againstAustinCollegewith a doubleheader set at noon. It is Senior Day and the Maroon and White will be recognizing its four seniors: Jenny King, McDonald, Lauren Swift, and Sconce prior to the game at 11:45 a.m.
