TYLER, Texas – The No. 26 Centenary baseball team dropped the season series with the University of Texas at Tyler after splitting a doubleheader on Saturday. Centenary (22-9) claimed the opener 6-3 before falling 8-5 in the night cap. The No. 11 Patriots move to 25-7 on the season.

This marks the first series dropped by the Maroon and White this season.

The sixth inning made all the difference in the opening game of the doubleheader as the Gents plated three runs in the frame to take a 4-1 lead.

Ryan Gasporra, Tyler Clakley, Jemari James and Nic Parrott all had two hits in the outing. Christian Sebastien supplied the only other hit for the Gents.

Sebastien, James and Clakley each tallied a hit in the sixth inning. James’ single plated Clakley and Gasporra. Littleman also scored during the play on a throw that erased James from the base paths for the first out of the inning.

Cole Thompson (4-0) picked up the win for the Maroon and White with seven strikeouts and six hits allowed. The complete-game decision marked the fourth of the season for the Plano, Texas, senior.

Jordan Marah (6-2) was saddled with his second loss of the season allowing four runs on four hits through 5.1 innings of work.

The Patriots plated runs in six of their eight trips to the plate in the second contest. The Gents plated four of their five runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn’t overcome the deficit.

Sebastien and Clakley combined for four of the Maroon and White’s 10 hits in the contest with two each. Sebastien also scored a pair of runs in the outcome off a homerun in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 7-4.

Paul Arecement (1-1) surrendered six runs on 11 hits in his first loss of the season.

Jack Barkley (6-2) notched the win for the Patriots on the mound with 6.1 innings of work and four runs allowed on eight hits.

Sam Lane and Kevan House tallied two hits apiece in both outings to lead the way for UT-Tyler.

Centenary returns to Shehee Stadium on Saturday, Apr. 13 against Austin College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
