SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball prepares to close out its regular season, home slate on Wednesday, Apr. 17 as the Gents (24-9) host cross-town rival Louisiana State University-Shreveport at 6 p.m. at Shehee Stadium.

The home finale comes on the heels of the Maroon and White claiming the top seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, to be held Apr. 25-28 in Georgetown, Texas at Southwestern University, over the weekend.

Jemari James continues to pace an offensive unit that ranks second in the conference in batting average hitting .407 on the season. The St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, native is tied for third on the team in hits with 37 alongside Matt Creamer. Craig Littleman leads the squad in hits with 48 on the campaign followed by Tyler Clakley with 46 knocks. Clakley, a product of Tyler, Texas leads the team in RBI with 38.

Reigning SCAC Pitcher of the Week, Cole Thompson leads a Gents’ pitching staff with 56 strikeouts in 70.2 innings of work – both bests on the squad. The Plano, Texas, native’s five wins rank second on the team only behind Layton Tromba’s six victories. Tromba has registered seven complete games on the season – tops among the hurlers – and two better than Thompson. Grady Flournoy and Holden Novak lead the staff in ERA with both garnering averages under 2.00 at 1.59 and 1.86 respectively on the season.

Greg Friesen leads the Pilots into the midweek contest batting .391 on the year while recording 75 hits – third best on the team – and a team leading 68 RBI. Ridge Gonsoulin paces the squad with 84 hits on the year.

The meeting between the two squads will be the first of the season. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 6 p.m. at LSUS. The Maroon and White hold an 11-7 record over their neighbors to the south despite dropping a pair of contests to the Pilots last season.

Following the midweek affair, Centenary takes to the road over the weekend to face the University of Dallas. First pitch on Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
