Friday, May 24, 2013

SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary Athletics and men’s head coach David Orr announce the 2013 soccer schedule. The Gents’ slate boasts 19 matches, including 13 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

“We have a very competitive schedule.  Our early schedule, before SCAC play, is against strong opponents and should prepare our squad for conference play,” Orr said. “The early portion of the schedule will be highlighted with our exhibition match versus the University of Texas at Tyler on August 23rd. Bennett Ranking has ranked the SCAC as the eighth best conference out of 44 in NCAA Division III. Thus we have work ahead of us. “

The Gents open the campaign with two of their first three matches inside the confines of Mayo Field. The Maroon and White host East Texas Baptist University on Aug. 30 and return home on Sept. 11 to open SCAC action against Austin College. Sandwiched between the two home affairs is a road contest at Louisiana College. All three matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Prior to returning home for the only other home contest in September, a 7 p.m. start against LeTourneau on the 17th, Centenary will take part in the Hendrix College Tournament on Sept. 14-15 against the host Warriors and Rhodes College.

Centenary has six of its eight matches in the month of October at home, including four contests in 10 days to close out the month. Featured during the month are four outings with SCAC newcomers Texas Lutheran and Schreiner University. The Gents will host TLU and SU on the 4th and 6th respectively before traveling to the two opponents the following the week.

The final, four home matches of the season include Trinity on Oct. 18, Southwestern on Oct. 20, Dallas on Oct. 25 and Colorado College on the 27th.

The regular season finale at Austin College is scheduled for Nov. 1 with the conference tournament slated for Nov. 8-10 at Southwestern.

Also highlighted on the slate for Centenary is an exhibition at Mayo Field against Texas-Tyler on Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. in conjunction with a March of Dimes fundraiser. An alumni outing will take place the following day at 1 p.m.
