SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary Director of Athletics and Wellness Ronda Seagraves announced today that the infield of Shehee Stadium will feature FieldTurf beginning this spring. The result of an unsolicited, anonymous gift, installation of the synthetic turf will begin immediately.

Adding a turf infield to Shehee Stadium certainly enhances our program,” said Seagraves. “The ability to decrease the upkeep and increase the exposure of a premium field for our student-athletes and recruits is a great plus. Our baseball program is the beneficiary of great planning and support. We are Centenary proud!

The new infield comes on the heels of the Gents claiming the top seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Championship and a runner-up finish in the tournament. The Maroon and White posted its second, straight-winning season and sixth in the last 10 campaigns. Centenary skipper Mike Diaz was named SCAC Co-Coach of the Year while senior Craig Littleman was tabbed the conference’s Co-Player of the Year and Paul Arcement was named Freshman of the Year. The Gents placed 10 members on the all-conference team – the most since 2009 when six were named to the All-Summitt League Team.

“Anytime you can improve your facility it is exciting. The guys and the coaching staff are excited about it. It will save us man hours and that is always a good bonus,” Diaz stated. “All in all we are excited about having a nice facility. Recruits can come in and see something that can be proud of and hopefully we can get more recruits because of it. We are ecstatic about having turf in our infield.”

The patented design of FieldTurf is radically different from any other synthetic system. While synthetic turf systems might look the same, there are stark contrasts between FieldTurf and the rest. There are three main components to a turf system – fiber, backing, and infill.

The 2008 World Series and 2009 World Baseball Classic are among clients that have installed FieldTurf as its playing surface in addition to George Washington University, Wright State University, Dartmouth College, the University of Missouri, theUniversity of Louisville, Princenton University, and various others.
