SHREVEPORT, La. – First-year, Centenary head volleyball coach Caley Carter announces that BT Knudsen and Katie Denton will serve on her staff for the 2013 season.

“It is an exciting time for Centenary volleyball with Katie and BT joining the staff, because the players who are in our program will have the opportunity to learn about volleyball from every aspect of the game,” stated Carter.

Knudsen comes to Centenary from Manchester University where he served as a women’s soccer assistant coach and a volunteer assistant with the women’s volleyball program. During his time at MU, he served as the head of recruiting and the weight and conditioning coordinator for Manchester’s women’s soccer program. Knudsen assisted with all aspects of the soccer program with an emphasis on goalkeeping.

Prior coaching stops include, Hannibal-LaGrange University and the University of Albany, where he helped lead the Danes to the 2010 American East Conference Championship. While at UA, Knudsen tutored 2010 All-America East Second Teamer and Defensive Player of the Year, Laurie Gonzalez.

Knudsen is an eight-year veteran of the Danish Volleyball League, where he assisted DHG to five Danish gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze medal. Knudsen is a three-time Danish Professional Volleyball Libero of the Year and a five-time runner-up throughout his more than 25 European Cup matches and 15 national team games.

“BT is a high-level volleyball player having played for his national team for many years with many national championships in the Danish Volleyball League,” said Carter. “His specialty is passing and defense since he played the libero position for over 15 years at the professional level.  However, his general knowledge of the game overall is exceptional and his ability to relate to the players makes him an invaluable asset to the team.”

A Greater Northwest Athletic Conference record holder for a triple-double in assists, kills and digs, Denton was a two-year letterwinner at Division II St. Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash., as a setter. Denton has coached volleyball for 10 seasons at the high school and club level. For the two previous seasons, she has served as the Associate Head Volleyball Coach at Black Hills High School in Tumwater, Wash. She helped guide the Wolves to a seventh-place finish at the state tournament in 2012 and was selected to coach the all-state 2A volleyball team.

Currently Denton is a Spanish teacher at Northwood High School in Blanchard, La., and is married to Master Sgt. Jess Denton of the United States Air Force.

“Katie will be a help for us mainly at practice since she has a full-time job as a teacher and will limit her travel ability, but her experience playing at the Division II level will be a good balance with BT and my experiences,” Carter stated. “Between the three of us we have all divisions covered from junior college, the three, NCAA divisions, and professional and national team experience.  With her being a setter that also means that we have every position covered.”

Centenary opens the 2013 season on Aug. 30 against Philander Smith College in the Hendrix College Tournament in Conway, Ark.
