SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s soccer team opens the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 30 as the Gents host East Texas Baptist University at 7 p.m. The season opener marks the first of nine contests for the Maroon and White at Mayo Field this season.

The match marks the second meeting in the series between the Tigers and Centenary. The Gents claimed the first meeting 3-2 at Mayo Field in 2011.

The opener concludes a two-week preseason training camp for the Gents. Centenary hosted the University of Texas at Tyler in an exhibition on Aug. 23 as part of the third annual Mayor’s Cup and March of Dimes Night at Mayo Field.

Sixth-year head coach David Orr leads the 2013 edition of the Gents onto the pitch featuring six upperclassmen from a season ago paired with 14 newcomers to the program, including 13 freshmen. Headlining the squad is sophomore Zachary Kidder, who was named to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team following his first season with the Gents.

ETBU, under the guidance of first-year head coach Paul Grant, returns eight of its nine goal scorers from a season ago, including All-American Southwest Conference First Team members Peter Fitzsimmons and Juan Ramirez. The Blue and Gold were picked to finish seventh in the 11-member ASC after finishing 10th in 2012.

Centenary returns to action on Sept. 5 at Louisiana College. Match time against the Wildcats is slated for 7 p.m.
