SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary men’s soccer team fell 1-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener to Austin College on Wednesday evening at Mayo Field. The loss moves the Gents to 0-3 on the campaign while AC improves to 1-2-1.

Gabriel Zahm and Clinton Azeez led the offensive attack for the Maroon and White combining for four of the seven shots on the night. Daryn Beaugh, Danny Haar and Chris Berrios each tallied a shot for the Gents.

Joey Alcocer proved the difference in the contest hitting an unassisted shot early in the second half to give the Roos a 1-0 lead. The shot – one of two by Alcocer - was one of 13 taken by Austin College on the night. Andrew Parides, Daniel Graham and Caleb Walters each tied Alcocer for the team lead in the category.

Austin Andrews (0-3) tallied five saves in the complete 90 minutes in the net for the Gents in the decision.

Ian Allison swatted away five, Gents’ shots in the win in goal for the Roos.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 as the Gents travel to Conway, Ark., for the Hendrix College Tournament. The Maroon and White face the host Warriors at 2 p.m.
