Centenary opens season-long homestand; Hosts Trinity and Southwestern

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s soccer team returns to the pitch in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action this weekend. The Gents open a season-long, four-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 18 against Trinity at 8 p.m. The SCAC office will also be on campus for the contest as part of the #SCAC8in8 Tour.

In conjunction with the match, the Campus Activities Board and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee are holding giveaways. The first 200 students to Mayo Friday night receive free, Italian ice from Get the Scoop along with spirit flags. The SAAC is holding a drawing for students for a 32”, LED television. The SCAC is also giving away shirts to fans at the contests.

The weekend slate closes on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Southwestern.

Kellan Klaus leads the Maroon and White with two goals on the season. The junior sits second on the team in shots with 15 – one behind Chris Berrios’ 16. Berrios along with Jeremy Klespis and Daryn Beaugh have each tallied a score this season.

Austin Andrews and Rylan Whan have logged the majority of minutes in net for the Gents with Andrews claiming a team-best 675 minutes with a team-leading 48 saves. Whan sits one save behind Andrews and leads the goalkeepers with a 77-save percentage. The duo ranks sixth and seventh in the conference in saves while Whan is fourth in save percentage.

Trinity’s Jonny Lawson is tied for second in the conference in goals this season with seven while Yuri Ribeiro is tops in the league with eight assists on the campaign. Matt Cardone is ninth in the conference in saves with 21.

SU’s Steven Resnik is tied with Lawson in goals in the SCAC while Michael Olivares is knotted up with TU’s Victor Araujo for second in assists with five this season. Pirates’ keeper, Daniel Poole leads the league in saves with 62 and has four shutouts this season which ranks third in the SCAC.

Following the weekend slate, Centenary closes out the homestand next weekend as the Gents host the University of Dallas and Colorado College.
