Volleyball prepares SCAC Championship

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary volleyball team returns to postseason action this weekend as they travel to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, for the double-elimination, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.  The Ladies open with top-seeded Trinity in the first round at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

Sarah Sumner leads the Maroon and White offensively as she ranks eighth in the conference in kills with 276 (2.79 per set) and has 34 service aces (0.34 per set) which is sixth in the league this season. Rachel Perkins ranks third in the conference in aces with 39 (0.39 per set). Beth Nuttall continues to be a consistent table-setter for Centenary in her final season as the Conroe, Texas, native has 699 assists (7.13 per set) on the campaign.

Brooke Bahlinger, who ranks second on the team in kills 184, and Chelsea Petska anchor the Ladies defensive unit. Bahlinger has tallied a team-best 323 digs with Petska second on the squad collecting 267 this season. Lindsey Long quietly paces the Maroon and White with 45 blocks on the campaign.

TU features three, First Team All-SCAC honorees, led by SCAC Player of the Year Maggie Emodi, who is second in the SCAC in kills (407), third in kills per set (3.13), seventh in digs (474), and eighth in hitting percentage (.248). Erin Cusenbary leads the SCAC with 160 total blocks and fifth in the country for blocks per set with 1.30. She also leads the league in hitting percentage (.293). Erika Edrington, a second team, All-SCAC performer, is eighth in the league in assists (623).
