Centenary opens 2013-14 campaign Saturday at UT-Tyler

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team opens the 2013-14 season on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the University of Texas at Tyler. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Centenary returns six letterwinners from the 2012-13 season that went 6-19 on the campaign. Four returners from a season ago are in their second season with the Maroon and White. Rebecca Thompson and Briana Edwards return as the Ladies’ leading scorers. Edwards averaged 7.7 points with Thompson chiming in 6.1 points per game.

The duo also paced Centenary on the boards as Edwards ranked second in the conference with 9.5 boards per contest. Thompson averaged 6.2 rebounds, which ranked 13th.

Fourth-year head coach Kristen Davis adds seven newcomers to the roster, including five freshmen that Davis plans to see a lot of playing time in their first year.

Saturday’s opener marks the beginning of a tough, non-conference slate for the Maroon and White.

The Ladies’ ledger consists of 10 outings in the friendly confines of the Gold Dome. Centenary opens the home slate on Nov. 19 against crosstown foe LSU-Shreveport.
