Centenary hosts Pilots Tuesday in home opener

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team opens its 2013-14 home slate at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 as the Ladies (0-1) host cross-town foe Louisiana State University-Shreveport.

The meeting is the second in the series between the two teams that are separated by five miles.

The Maroon and White posted three players in double figures at the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday to open the season. Sophomore Rhonda Martin paced the squad with 13 points as fellow sophomore Briana Edwards, who led the team with seven rebounds and freshman DeiAnna Hall each added 12 points. Kayla Ruth also chimed in six boards.

After opening the season with wins over Texas Wesleyan, Southwestern Assemblies of God and Philander Smith, the Pilots enter the contest sporting a 3-1 record after falling to Xavier (La.) 63-58 on Saturday.

Byroneshia Santiago leads the Blue and Gold averaging 14.8 points and 10.3 rebounds through the first four games of the season with Shanovia Gamblin and Kiara Taylor adding 13.5 and 12.3 points per game respectively.

Centenary returns to the hardwood on Friday, Nov. 22 as the Ladies travel to Clinton, Miss., for the Mississippi College hosted Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament. The Ladies open the two-day event at 5:30 p.m. against Rust. The tournament concludes in a 1 p.m. outing against LaGrange.
