CLINTON, Miss. – The Centenary women’s basketball team fell to 0-3 on the season following a 65-63 loss to Rust College in the first game of the Zaxby’s Charity Tip-off Tournament. The Bearcats improved to 2-1 on the campaign.

Briana Edwards logged her second double-double of the season in the effort for the Maroon and White with 17 points and 11 rebounds – both team bests in the affair. DeiAnna Hall added 10 points for the Ladies – her second contest in double figures.

Rhonda Martin finished a point and board shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Lizzie Moran recorded a career-high with nine points.

Centenary forced a season-high 24 turnover and capitalized with 26 points off the Rust miscues, but couldn’t overcome shooting 31-percent from the field. The Wildcats connected on 42-percent of their shots from the floor, despite not attempting a three-pointer.

Katy Doyle gave the Ladies their largest lead of contest, 27-15, on a three-pointer with 4:10 remaining in the first half. The trey capped a 20-8 run that covered over 12 minutes after RC tied the contest at 7-all.

The Wildcats answered with an 11-3 spurt to cut the Ladies’ advantage to 30-28 at the half.

Rust continued to press the issue in the second stanza and grabbed its first lead of the outing, 41-39, off a layup from Whitney McNeal with 13:38 left in the contest. The advantage held until the 7:12 mark when a Haley Deshautell trey placed the Ladies back in front 53-52.

The two squads exchanged baskets the remainder of the contest until Jessica Brown’s layup with 11 seconds left put the Wildcats up 64-63. Brown added a free-throw to finish the old-fashioned three-point play to secure the win.

Brown and Kala Williams each tallied double-doubles in the effort. Brown led with 22 points and 15 rebounds while Williams supplied 16 points and 11 boards. McNeal finished the evening with 11 points to round out the double figure scorers.

Centenary returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Nov. 23 as they close out the tournament against LaGrange. Tip is slated for 1 p.m.
