Centenary grabs second win of the season with 85-74 decision

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s basketball team moved to 2-1 on the season following an 85-74 win over Louisiana College on Saturday afternoon. LC falls to 0-1 in the effort.

Jonathan Blount scored 24 points in the win to lead the Gents. The effort marks the third straight contest with 20-plus points for the Shreveport, La., senior. Donovan Williams added 12 points – his third outing in double-digits for the Maroon and White this season.

Freshman Kendall Demouchet grabbed a team-best nine rebounds in the victory – a career-high and his first contest as the team’s leading rebounder this season.

Never trailing in the contest, Centenary held a 41-28 advantage at the break. The Maroon and White marched its lead out to 17 points – it’s largest of the game – at the 15:07 mark following a layup by Williams.

The Wildcats answered with a 13-5 run to cut the lead under double-digits with less than 10 minutes remaining in the outing. The Gents pressed the lead back out to double digits, but again LC mounted a run cutting the deficit to four points with 2:15 left in the contest.

Again the Gents pushed the lead back to double figures outscoring the Blue and Orange 8-1 during the final two minutes to secure the victory. Jarius Browning and Williams knocked down a pair of free throws with Blount and Caden Cheramie adding baskets during the stretch.

A pair of Wildcats scored 20-plus points led by Anthony Gaines’ 24. Kevin Cottonham added 20 points with 10 coming from Kevin Lewis. Gaines’ also points pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double in the effort.

The Gents shots 49-percent from the field with LC shooting 39-percent.

Centenary returns to action on Monday, Dec. 2 as it travels to LeTourneau University. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
