Gents host Open Bible College this weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. – After 12 days off the court, the Centenary men’s basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Dec. 14 as the Gents (3-1) host Open Bible College. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.

The Maroon and White enter riding a two-game, win streak after a 68-56 decision at LeTourneau on Dec. 2.

Jonathan Blount leads the Gents this season in scoring. The Shreveport, La., senior is averaging 23.8 points per game while shooting 64.4 percent from the field and a 61.1 clip from behind the arc – both leading – all three tops in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Donovan Williams joins Blount in double figures with 12 points per contest and paces the squad on the glass with 5.5 rebounds per outing which is 10th in the conference. Freshman James Sapp joins Williams on the glass grabbing an average of five boards per game.

Centenary ranks third in the SCAC in scoring averaging 75 points per game. The Maroon and White lead the conference in three-point field goal percentage at 35.2 and are second in free-throw percentage at 77.6 percent.

The weekend outing isn’t the first, SCAC competition for OBC. The Bruins fell 77-63 at Texas Lutheran on Nov. 18. Trey Lindsey paced the Blue and Gold with 15 points with Darnelle Reese adding 14 points. Galander Omer led the way on the glass with eight rebounds in the decision.

Saturday’s outing is last at the Gold Dome for the Gents in 2013 as they open a nine-game, road swing on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Louisiana-Lafayette. Tip at ULL is slated for 7 p.m.
