SHREVEPORT, La. – Double-doubles from Haley Deshautelle and Briana Edwards weren’t enough to lead the Centenary women’s basketball team to its first win of the season as the Ladies (0-6) fell 73-47 to Rhodes College on Monday afternoon. The Lynx remained unblemished on the campaign at 8-0

Edwards picked up her third double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds – both team bests. Deshautelle logged the first double-double of her career with 10 points and 10 boards.

Rhodes placed three players in double-digits led by 16 points from Lauren Avant. Blaire Smith added 11 with 10 points coming from Dy’Nelle Todman.  Avant and Katherine Hall each grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

The Lynx jumped out to an early 9-0 lead through the first two minutes of the contest. The Maroon and White answered the early spurt with a 13-5 run to nip the deficit to within 14-13 with just over 10:30 left in the first half. However the Red and Black, which led by as much as 38 points in the contest, responded with stingy defense that sparked a 26-3 run to close the opening stanza.

The Ladies shot 28 percent from the field as Rhodes connected on 37 percent of its attempts from the floor including nearly 37 percent from behind the arc. Centenary shot a season-high 68.4 percent from the charity stripe compared to the Lynx who shot 53.8 percent from the free-throw.

Centenary returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18 as the Ladies travel to Millsaps College. Tip is slated for 5 p.m.
