JACKSON, Miss. – The Centenary women’s basketball team placed three players in double figures scoring, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Millsaps College on Wednesday evening at the Hanger Dome as the Ladies (0-7) fell 70-50. Millsaps moved to 5-3 on the year.

DeiAnna Hall paced the Maroon and White with a career-high 15 points. Rebecca Thompson scored a season-high 11 points off the bench – three shy of tying her career-high – in just her second outing this season.

Briana Edwards rounded out the double-digit scorers as she recorded her fourth double-double of the season and 13th career with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The rebounding the total was one shy of tying her season-high set earlier in the week against Rhodes College.

Centenary shot its second-highest, field goal percentage of the season in the decision at 33 percent and connected on 77.8 percent of its attempts from the free-throw line marking a season-high for the Maroon and White.

Velvet Johnson tallied a team-best 21 points for the Majors in the win. Sam Perez added 14 points with 12 coming from Kala Freeman. Miah Brooks guided the Purple and White with 10 rebounds.

Trailing by 14 early in the second stanza, the Ladies nipped the deficit to within six points behind an 8-0 run with 17:30 remaining in the contest, but it would be as close as the Maroon and White got as the Majors answered with a 15-4 spurt to quickly push the lead out to 17 points with 11:41 left in the contest. Millsaps grabbed its largest lead, 22 points, with 2:17 left behind a pair of Perez free-throws.

MC shot 42.6 percent from floor including a clip of 30.8 from three-point range. The Majors finished the night shooting 63.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Centenary returns to action on Monday, Dec. 30 as the Ladies host Louisiana College. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
