JACKSON, Miss. – The Centenary men’s basketball team dropped its third straight contest in an 89-78 overtime decision at Millsaps College on Friday evening. The Majors (2-7) outscored the Maroon and White 20-9 in the extra session. Centenary moves to 4-4 on the season.

A trio of Gents scored in double figures led by 16 from Jonathan Blount. Kendall Demouchet added 13 points while leading the team with seven rebounds in the contest. Donovan Williams added 10 points and was second on the team in rebounds with six.

Each team held the lead seven times in the contest with a combined seven ties.

Centenary, which shot just shy of 53 percent from the field and hit 41 percent from behind the arc, trailed by as many as eight points with five minutes remaining in the second half, but rallied to tie the affair at 67-all with just over a minute remaining in regulation. The two squads went scoreless over the next 58 seconds until MC regained the lead on Mac McElveen layup, but Brooks Pawsat sent the contest into overtime hitting a jumper as time expired.

The Majors opened the final five minutes with scoring the first seven points. A Caden Cheramie free throw broke the scoreless drought for the Gents, but MC answered with four consecutive free throws extended the lead to double digits, 80-70, with 2:15 left in the contest thus securing the victory.

Marc Robertson led all scorers with 19 points for the Majors. Murray Kastner added 14 with Ryan Berger tabbing in 13 points for the Purple and White. Alex Gerchow grabbed a team-best seven boards in the win.

MC connected on 13 of 25 from the three-point line en route to shooting 48 percent from the floor.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Jan.4 as the Gents face Rust College in the Hangar Dome on the Millsaps campus. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
