MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Centenary men’s basketball team fell to 5-5 on the season after falling 67-64 at Rhodes College on Monday evening. The Lynx improved to 7-4 on the campaign.

Jonathan Blount paced the Gents with 26 points marking his seventh game with 20-plus points this season. The scoring total was the fourth highest total for the Shreveport, La., native and just two points off his season-high.

Caden Cheramie led the Maroon and White on the glass with eight rebounds.

Centenary, which never lead in the game, pulled within a point on four different occasions in the second half, but could never overtake the Red and Black during the half with the last coming with seven seconds left off a Kendall Demouchet layup. However, Rhodes knocked down two of the final four free throws in the waning seconds to ice the contest.

Rhodes opened the outing with the first two buckets of the contest – a layup from Geoff Livsey and a trey from Drew Miller, but Cheramie snapped the streak for the Lynx with a free throw. The Gents pulled within 9-7 at the 15:17 mark of the opening stanza, but Rhodes answered pushing the lead out to 27-17 with 8:37 left in the first half – its largest lead of the game – on a three-pointer from Ryan VanHoek. Centenary answered with a 17-10 run to narrow the deficit to three points at the intermission.

The Gents shot 33 percent from the field despite hitting just 2 of 13 from behind the arc. Rhodes finished the contest connecting 52 percent including a clip of 50 percent from the three-point line.

Livsey led the Lynx with 14 points with 12 coming from Miller. Johnny Durvant led the way on the glass with five rebounds.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Jan. 10 as they open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at the University of Dallas.
