IRVING, Texas -- The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday evening falling 74-61 at the University of Dallas. Dallas improves to 9-3 and 2-0 in conference play while the Ladies are 0-10 overall.

The Maroon and White picked up strong efforts from Lizzie Moran and Briana Edwards in the setback. Moran led all scorers with a career-high 23 points. The point total is her second double-digit performance of the season and bests her previous mark of 11 at Mississippi College on Nov. 30.

Edwards added 10 points and grabbed a team-leading 10 boards for her sixth double-double of the campaign and 13th of her career. The Shreveport, La., native’s point total gives her seven, double figure outings this season.

The Ladies shot a season-high 34.8 percent from behind the arc leading them to their fourth, highest field goal percent of the season at 31.9 percent.

Both squads turned the ball over 19 times in the contest, but UD was able to convert the Ladies’ miscues into 24 of its 74 points. Centenary tallied 10 points off the Blue and White’s mistakes. The Crusaders also held a plus-28 point advantage with 46 points in the paint.

Centenary’s perimeter defense held Dallas to just 16.7 percent from behind the arc on the night – the third, lowest total for an opponent this season. Dallas finished the night shooting 40 percent from the field.

Holly Tonry paced a trio of Crusaders in double figures with 14 points. Christy Allen tallied 12 points to pair with her team-best 11 rebounds while Brooke Hagemann added 11 points.
