Centenary treks to Trinity and Southwestern for conference play

SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary men’s basketball team returns to the hardwood this weekend as the Gents (6-6) travel to Trinity and Southwestern. The Maroon and White open at TU on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. and close out on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. against the Pirates.

Centenary is led by Jonathan Blount who leads the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in scoring. The Shreveport, La., native is averaging 21.9 points per game this season. The senior is shooting at 46.4 percent which ranks 12th in the conference in field goal percentage. Blount is also shooting 46 percent from behind the arc.

Freshman Kendall Demouchet paces the SCAC in field goal percentage connecting on 53.6 percent while ranking 16th in the conference in scoring with 10.7 points per affair. The Lafayette, La., product is eighth in the league in rebounding with 5.5 boards per game. Caden Cheramie sits behind his teammate with 9.9 points per outing.

The Gents look to rebound from a 79-71 setback at Colorado College last Sunday. Centenary opened conference play with a 79-62 victory at Dallas on Friday in which five players scored in double-digits for the second time this season.

The Tigers are 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play after falling 65-62 to Schreiner in its last outing. Southwestern is 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the SCAC after knocking off Texas Lutheran 70-68.

Trinity is led by Robert Kitzinger with 15.2 points per game while Michael Cantu leads SU with 11.8 points a game. Sean Myers is the top rebounds for the Pirates averaging 5.1 per contest while Jonathan Wilt has 4.9 boards per game for TU.

Centenary returns to the confines of the Gold Dome following the road swing as the Gents welcome Texas Lutheran and Schreiner next weekend.
