Ladies return to SCAC play this weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action this weekend as the Ladies (0-11) travel to Trinity and Southwestern this weekend. The Maroon and White open at TU on Friday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. and close out on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. against the Pirates.

Briana Edwards paces Centenary in scoring and on the glass. The Shreveport, La., native is averaging 10.8 points per game – which ranks 18th in the conference – and leads the SCAC in rebounds with 10.3 per outing. Edwards sits as the only women’s basketball player in the conference averaging double figure boards this season.

The Ladies have received assistance from newcomers DeiAnna Hall, Haley Deshautelle and Lizzie Moran. Hall is averaging 9.5 points per game while Deshautelle sits at 9.1 points per outing. Moran paced the Ladies in the last outcomes moving up to 8.5 points per game this season. Moran posted a career-high 23 points at Dallas last weekend.

Trinity’s Murphy Burns and Southwestern’s Jordan Owens rank as two of the top three scorers in the SCAC. Burns is averaging 16.1 points per game while Owens is scoring 16 points per contest. Annie Bourne ranks second in the conference in rebounds with 9.7 to lead SU. Libby Kruse ranks fourth in the SCAC with 9.2 rebounds per game.

The Tigers sit atop the conference standings at 11-3 and 3-0 in the SCAC. TU downed Texas Lutheran (70-64) and Schreiner (75-52) in its last two trips on the hardwood. Southwestern is 5-9 on the campaign and 1-2 in conference play after knocking off Texas Lutheran 92-82 in its last outing.

Centenary returns to the confines of the Gold Dome following the road swing as the Ladies welcome Texas Lutheran and Schreiner next weekend.
