GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Centenary men’s basketball team moved even in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play following a 65-58 win at Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon. The Gents sits 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC while SU falls to 5-10 and 2-3 in the league.

Jonathan Blount and Kendall Demouchet each tallied 14 points in the contest. Demouchet finished one rebound shy of a double-double gathering a team-best nine rebounds.

The Pirates were led by Eric Garza with 15 points. Adrian Johnson added 14 points. Sean Myers joined Garza with a team-best six boards.

A contest in which the Gents led a majority of the way with the Black and Gold claiming its only lead with 12:12 left to play on a Johnson layup, but Caden Cheramie layup three seconds later placed the Maroon and White back in front. Centenary, which held its largest lead early in the first half by 12 points, continued to press the advantage grabbing a 51-41 lead with 7:39 left in the contest.

The Gents connected on a season-high 66.7 percent from behind the arc as they shot .39 percent from the floor. Centenary hit 82 percent from the free throw line tying the second best mark of the season set against LSU-Shreveport in the season opener.

SU shot 31 percent from the field as the Maroon and White held the Pirates to 28 percent from three-point land.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Jan. 24 as the Gents welcome Texas Lutheran to the Gold Dome. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
