Ladies fall at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – A trio of players posted double-digits scoring, but it wasn’t enough for the Centenary women’s basketball team to log its first win of the season as the Ladies (0-13) fell 91-57 at Southwestern University on Saturday. SU improved to 7-9 and 3-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Lizzie Moran and Linda Gomez Gil each tallied 11 points. The point total was a career-high for Gomez Gil. Rhonda Martin added 10 points for the Maroon and White marking just her third game in double figures and first since posting 11 against LSU-Shreveport. Haley Deshautelle and Rebecca Thompson tied for the team lead on the glass with five rebounds each.

Chelsea Ledder paced the Black and Gold with 18 points. Madison Eschle added 15 points off the bench while Annie Bourne rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points and paired it with 16 rebounds.

Centenary finished the contest shooting 27 percent from the floor and 21 percent from behind the arc.  SU hit 47 percent of its shots from the field including a clip of 43 from three-point arc. The Ladies connected on 69 percent from the charity stripe nearly 10 percent better than the Black and Gold.

The Pirates posted 40 points in the paint and gathered 49 of its points on the night from the bench.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Jan. 24 as the Ladies welcome Texas Lutheran to the Gold Dome. Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
