Ladies return home to face Schreiner and Texas Lutheran

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team prepares for its first home games of 2014 as the Ladies host Texas Lutheran and Schreiner this weekend. The contest against TLU is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. with Sunday’s outing against SU slated for a 3 p.m. start.

Briana Edwards leads the Maroon and White into the weekend slate. The Shreveport, La., product is one of two players in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference averaging a double-double this season. Edwards leads the conference in rebounds with 10.8 per game and is averaging 10.4 points per game which sits 19th in the league. Southwestern’s Annie Bourne joins Edwards as the only player to accomplish the feat with 10.1 rebounds and 10.1 points – 21st in the conference.

The Ladies have received solid production from three freshmen this season. DeiAnna Hall, Lizzie Moran and Haley Deshautelle rank among the league’s top scorers. Hall is averaging 9.8 points per game which is 22nd in the conference. Moran and Deshautelle are averaging 7.9 and 7.8 points per contest which are 27th and 28th respectively.

Schreiner is 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference while Texas Lutheran is 11-5 on the season and is 3-2 in the league. Both squads knocked off Colorado College and Dallas in their last two outings.

SU’s Lindsey Peterson is tops in the SCAC in scoring with 17.4 points per game and ranks sixth in rebounding with 7.4 boards. Kelsie Jackson ranks ninth in the conference averaging 13.9 points with Bailey Harris with 10.4 points per game.

TLU is led by Taylor Dydalewicz with 12.4 points per game.  Karisa Cantu joins her sophomore teammate in double figures with 12.1 per contest.  Kristen Lye paces the Bulldogs on the glass with 5.5 boards per outing which ranks 14th in the conference.
