SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s basketball team dropped a 90-83 overtime decision on Friday evening against Texas Lutheran. The Gents fall to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. TLU improves to 6-10 and 1-5 in the SCAC.

Jonathan Blount scored 27 points just one shy of tying his season-high. The Shreveport, La., native paced a trio of players that included 12 from Brooks Pawsat while Kendall Demouchet added 10 points. Caden Cheramie grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs, who outscored the Maroon and White 19-12 in the extra session, scored the first bucket of OT and never relinquished the lead during the final five minutes.

The Black and Gold trailed 38-31 at the intermission and grabbed their first lead since the 12:53 mark of the opening stanza with 11:13 left in regulation. Centenary regained the lead, 57-56, at the 6:13 mark of the half on an old-fashioned, three-point play by Blount.

The two squads exchanged leads the following six minutes until Blount, who accounted for the Gents’ final six points of the second half, hit a jumper with 19 ticks left to lift the Maroon and White to a 71-69 advantage. However Troy Griffith would knock down two free throws after he was fouled with six seconds on the clock to knot the contest and send it to the extra period.

TLU had two players with 20-plus points as Jordan Kouremetis posted 26 points and Robert Watson supplied 23 points. Garrett Wilkins added 19 points with 12 coming from Donte McGee. Watson pulled down seven rebounds to lead the team.

Centenary shot 46 percent from the field including 8 of 19 (42%) from behind the arc while the Bulldogs were 31 for 59 in the affair (52%) and hit 60 percent from the 3-point line.

The Gents return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Schreiner.
