SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team fell 75-54 on Sunday afternoon to Schreiner University. The Maroon and White fall to 0-15 and 0-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. SU improves to 9-9 and 4-3 in the SCAC.

Briana Edwards led the Ladies with 15 points. The sophomore’s point total was her first game in double-digits since Jan. 12 at Colorado College. The Shreveport, La., native tallied a season-high four blocks as the team recorded seven.

Haley Deshautelle grabbed a team-best seven rebounds – marking her second game as the leading rebounder in the last four games.

Centenary shot 31 percent from the field and was just less than 74 percent from the charity stripe which is the best since shooting just under 82 percent at Hendrix on Jan. 4.

The Ladies jumped out to 9-2 lead early, but a 15-6 run by SU gave the visitors a 17-15 advantage with 10:14 remaining in the first half. The Maroon and White remained tight through the remainder of the half trailing 29-23 at the break.

SU quickly pushed the advantage to double figures early in the second stanza off a trey from Peterson, who finished the night with a team-leading 26 points. The Mountaineers continued the pressure and extended their lead to as much as 25 points on two occasions.

Kelsie Jackson added 19 points while Peterson was one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-best nine boards.

The Mountaineers were 34 percent from the floor and connected on 89 percent from the free throw line.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Jan. 31 as the Ladies travel to Texas Lutheran. Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
